Vinnie: I've been liking my Asus EEEPC 901 for a couple of months now. The operating system it came with blew chunks all over the room (Xandros, I think? Something like that), but EasyPeasy Ubuntu has been working well since the 2nd day (with no hiccups).
eeepc is definitely the way to go, from what I've seen. For example, the Dell ones have no replaceable components, so it's pretty much a time bomb.
What I have has: 3 USB ports 20GB drive (at least, that's what they advertise, but it seems to actually be a 4GB + a 16GB drive) SD card slot (with which I assume one could add another 128+GB) Wifi, Bluetooth, Ethernet output for a regular-old monitor (which I use to output to my TV)
I've been using it for watching movies, doing work, and reading comics (..I just downloaded 20GB of comics.. works well when turned sideways, until there's a color Kindle and DC/Marvel release to that..), and carrying files to/from work (glorified thumb drive)
Mostly I use it to connect wirelessly to something which has more hard disk space, but there are also versions with regular HDDs. Newer models contain more awesomeness, and I hear next year a tablet version is being released. |
